Somaliland Ministry of Energy hands over medical kits donated by the RAK Gas LLC to the Health Ministry

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MoEM) received from RAK Gas LLC and Rak Chamber of Commerce & Industry vital medical supplies and equipment meant to boost the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MoEM) handed over the materials to the Ministry of Health Development (MoHD).

Mr. Mohamed Yusuf, the Director-General in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MoEM) on Sunday at the ministry headquarters handed the COVID-19 combating and support materials to Dr. Mohamed Xeergeeye, the Director-General in the Ministry of Health.

The Director-General in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MoEM) speaking during the handing over the equipment said that the Ministry had appealed to its partners such as Ras Gas LLC and Genel Energy to support the efforts of the government of President Muse Bihi Abdi fight against the  COVID-19 pandemic.

He added, “The supplies include COVID-19 rapid testing kits, personal protective equipment for doctors, nurses, first responders, and other emergency staff. This was the first shipment of materials support and it is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Dr. Mohamed Xeergeeye on his part said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Minister and Director-General for their efforts to work with their partners to supply us with the vital materials which include 4000 rapid test kits, 1,000 pcs of protective overall and 800 N95 masks and protective gloves, medical masks, face shields, and gowns.

“The COVID-19  rapid test kits will enable us to test more people particularly those living in remote and faraway places effectively and anyone who tests positive will further be reviewed and validated by the PCR machine”, said Dr. Mohamed Xeergeeye.
