Ministry of Energy and DNO AS distribute food Aid to 1600 Drought affected Families in Sool and Sanaag Regions

Eel Af-Weyn-The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and DNO Somaliland AS jointly delivered an integrated package of food assistance to 800 droughts affected families in Eel Afweyn district of Sanaag region.

The DNO Somaliland AS drought relief donation consisted of 32 tonnes of assorted food stuff which included Sugar, Flour, Dates, Rice and Cooking oil.

Hon Hussein Abdi Dualeh , Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources speaking during the handing over of the food donation said, “It is absolutely critical that we are able to provide drought assistance to the people affected by this crisis.

“The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and DNO Somaliland AS are here to deliver food assistance which will be distributed to 800 vulnerable families in the worst affected areas of Eel Af-Weyn District, DNO relief donation consisted of 32 tonnes of assorted food stuff which included Sugar, Flour, Dates, Rice and Cooking oil, he said.

The Energy Minister further said, “H.E President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Silanyo was here last month to on a fact-finding mission to assess and evaluate the impact of the drought and he has directed us (Cabinet Ministers) to be on the forefront in drought relief efforts.

Sheik Suleiman Jama Dualeh, chairman of the regional drought relief coordination committee speaking during the occasion said, “On behalf of the community, I will like to thank the Ministry of Energy and DNO AS for your assistance in this difficult times and a special thanks to the honourable Hussein Abdi Dualeh , who is the first government official to come to our aid.

“It is my humble plea to call upon all players in the private sector and the rest of Somalilanders to join in this worthy initiative in order to make a real difference in our communities and the country at large,”

Accepting the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Mohamed Liban Hindi, the Eel Af Weyn district officer expressed support for the initiative shown by both the Ministry and the company.

Mr. Mohamed Jama, DNO Somaliland AS representative while donating the food aid noted that DNO as a company is not only supporting the humanitarian cause of the society but also it is discharging the corporate responsibility to save lives.

Similar food donation was made to 800 drought affected families in Hudun district of sool region.
